In April 2023, Flare conducted its National Employee Benefits Index – a representative study of the attitudes on benefits and remuneration across 1,500 working Australians. Retail works overall have shown signs of overall discontent with their jobs. There has been over a 10% drop in those excited to go to work despite being somewhat happier with their pay.

Free food is always a win, and the data certainly agrees. Free coffee and snacks are the most utilised benefit, with virtual working and flexible schedules following quickly behind at 23% and 21% respectively.

Free coffee and snacks remain a popular benefit despite a drop in usage compared to six months ago. The benefits which have seen an uptick in usage are social gatherings outside work at 19%, career development at 11% and flexible working schedule at 42%.
